The soccer team of Portugal (Seleção or Selecção) consists of a selection of the best Portuguese football under the auspices of the Federation of Portuguese football. It is called Seleção das Quinas2 in reference to its emblem: the Quinas are small blue emblazoned emblem. The Portuguese Football Federation was founded in 1914. The first official game was played in Portugal against Spain in Madrid on 18 November 1921, which ended in a defeat for the Portuguese 3-1. The Portuguese Football Federation is affiliated to FIFA in 1923. In Lisbon, 25 May 1947, England imposes its largest defeat in Portugal with a score of 10 goals to 0. The Portuguese Football Federation is a member of UEFA since its inception in 1954. The soccer team of Portugal has failed to participate in the finals of the European Championships of Nations in 1960 and 1964.
